Throughout their time at Pimperne CE VC Primary School children will be provided with a variety of fun, relevant and exciting topic based experiences whichenhance their natural desire to explore designs, materials and structures. They will be given opportunities to be creative and imaginative to solve practical problem in a range of different contexts. They are also given opportunities to develop their cooking preparation skills through topic based cooking activities which are meaningful and purposeful.
The children are given opportunities to develop their reciprocal skills by learning individually or collaboratively with a partner or as a member of a group.
They will be given opportunities to research designs of the past and present and consider the effectiveness of these designs on everyday life and within the wider world. They will then use thisinformation to plan their ideas and think critically and refine their work. During the planning stage, the children are given different starting points and stimulus to enthuse their imagination and question their product. Once the children are confident that they have designed a suitable product, they are exposed to a range of different tools and resources to help them build it. Safety is paramount and therefore the demonstration and reiteration of safe usage of the equipment is expressed at all times. Children are encouraged to refine their product and make alterations as they see fit to do so, giving them independence and ownershipof their work. Children are encouraged to evaluate their product and assess its effectiveness, making constructive suggestions as to how they could improve it and the successfulness of it also.
