The Board of Governors
The Governors play a key role in the life and work of Pimperne Primary School. There is a full governors meeting once each half-term. Each governor can be assigned to one of two current sub-committees: School Improvement and Standards and Resources Committee (incorporating finance and environment). The day-to-day management and running of the school remains the responsibility of the Headteacher.
Our Values and Ethos as a board of governors is to create a climate where all parts of the school community are welcomed and are enabled to achieve their potential.
We intend to oversee an inclusive outstanding school and aim for our children to grow into resilient, enthusiastic and happy learners who develop their abilities and talents to the full and achieve their very best.
The board agrees to uphold these principles in all that it does and commits to do its best to support all in discharge of its functions.
The governing board has the following strategic functions:
Establishing the strategic direction, by:
- Setting the vision, values and objectives for the school
- Agreeing the school improvement strategy with priorities and targets within the School Development Plan
- Meeting statutory duties
Ensuring accountability, by:
- Appointing the Headteacher
- Monitoring the educational performance of the school and progress towards agreed targets
- Performance managing the Headteacher
- Engaging with stakeholders
- Contributing to school self-evaluation
Ensuring financial probity, by:
- Setting the budget
- Monitoring spending against the budget
- Ensuring money is well spent and value for money is obtained
- Ensuring risks to the organisation are managed
Below are profiles of each of the members of the governing board. Each serves for a term of four years, except the Headteacher who serves for their entirety of their time in post.

All Governors have Annual Safeguarding Training and are aware of their KCSIE responsibilities.
On the governing body we have members who represent a variety of the protected characteristics.

In addition to each of the committees that our Governors serve, many also have further responsibilities to deeper their understanding of aspects of school policy and practice. For example, many Governors are assigned areas of the curriculum where they work in partnership with our staff curriculum leaders, or are responsible for supporting or overseeing areas such as Collective Worship, Pupil Premium Funding or Safeguarding in collaboration with the staff. The challenge that our Governing Board gives to our leaders is to ensure that the best possible provision is made for each of our children.
